Bontrager's SSR Mountain Shoes are perfect for touring cyclists, commuters and anybody else that needs a shoe with a good balance of stiffness for pedaling efficiency and flexibility for walking. They feature rubber outsoles for great traction and SPD cleat mounts so you can clip in for indoor cycling class and jaunts across town. The street-smart, lace-up design lets them blend in while you're grabbing your morning coffee, while the single Velcro strap customizes the fit and keeps your laces out of the way. Wherever you ride, the SSRs are comfortable, stylish and durable.

In order to mount your pedal cleats to your shoes (cleats are included with new pedals and sold separately), the cleats and shoes must have matching bolt patterns.
There are four cleat configurations found on cycling shoes (diagram): SPD-R, Look/SPD-SL, SPD and Speedplay. Road shoes feature one, two or even three of these. Off-road shoes usually use the SPD pattern. If you're unsure which cleats your shoes require, please ask us. We're here to help!

Comments:
The area where the SPD is attached was hard to remove. You have to cut it and then pry it off since it is glued down. Then after a year the area where the SPD clip is attached is horizontally cracking. ON the right shoe it is cracked across the top in line with the holes for the allen screws.on the left shoe it is cracked below the clip in the solid section. I can only assume this is from walking in them from car to gym. I mostly used these at the gym for spin class for 3 months. I did not walk much in them nor did they get much use. So I am surprised this area is cracking. The tread looks like new. They are not very comfortable. A bit narrow if you have a wider foot and I can not seem to get them tight enough for walking as they want to slip a little. ON the bike it is fine.

Comments:
Just got the shoes along with the Shimano hybrid pedals. Was a little unsure at first about going from platform to clipless pedals, but was very surprised at how comfortable the shoes were and how easily I was able to adapt to a bike-specific shoe. I had expected a little heel slippage, nothing that can't be dealt with. Thanks to my LBS for helping me make an intelligent choice.

The only reason I didn't give these 5*s is because the width was a little wide but, I wear an "A" width so take that into consideration. These are my first bike shoes so still getting used to them but wanted a lace up shoe and the velcro strap helps to cinch them up nicely. Was used to toe clips so the clipless shoes and pedals have worked great!! Thanks to Champaign Cycle for helping with my choice...

Comments:
These are my first biking shoes. Was unsure about their use after using toe clips for awhile. They work quite well and am getting use to unclipping at the right time. I like the lace up as opposed to all velcroe closure. They feel more like my running or tennis shoes. The width is just a little wide but I have a very narrow (B) width. Since I dont walk far in them the width is no problem. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase.
